GIRLS BASKETBALL

The girls basketball team of this year did a great deal toward getting basketball for the boys. The girls started early in the season and worked hard under the competent coaching of Mrs. C. E. Wilson. After the football season arrangements were made for an indoor court, Mr. Wilson then took over the coaching work. Very few if any of the team had ever played basketball before and considering this, Grove had a very successful girl’s basketball season.

Guard ~ Zora Shofner; Ouida Cantrell; Margaret Weber Trevathan; Grace Evelyn Gross,
Forward ~ Lorraine Hancock; Elizabeth Wynns; Erlene Brown; Joy Caudle,
Manager ~ Joy Caudle

BOYS BASKETBALL

This year saw the inauguration of boys basketball at Grove. Considering the fact the the majority of the candidates had never played basketball before the amount of facilities, the schedule and the time that the boys had to practice, the team did remarkably well.

Kenneth Clayton and Leon Chapman were centers;
Charlie Butler, Don Wendling, Lester Neese and William Irion were forwards;
Sonny Humphreys and Curtis Mann were the standing guards;
Blease McAbee and Paul Scott were the running guards.

The team was coached by Mr. Robison and Managed by Kenneth Daniel. A captain was appointed at the beginning of each game
