New Henry County sports hall of fame class chosen

Athletic greats with achievements that span over parts of two centuries will be
the latest enshrined into the Paris-Henry County Sports Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame committee is announcing the 2010 inductees as Angie McGrew
Oliver, Rob Hessing, Earl Kendall, Bill Moody and the late Don Sutton. The
Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Jim Farmer.
Oliver was a three-time District 10-AAA Most Valuable Player in basketball at
Henry County High School in the mid-1980s. Hessing starred in golf at Henry
County and Austin Peay State University in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He
played professionally before becoming a golf club operator and high school
coach.
Kendall played basketball and football at Central High School in the early 1960s
before becoming a long-time coach in those sports throughout the Henry County
School System. Moody was a gifted athlete in several sports at Grove High School
in the early 1960s and has been a leading figure in local youth athletics for
many years.
Sutton lettered in baseball, basketball, football and track at Grove from
1946-50. He remained a competitor in several sports as an adult while also
having a long career as an official in baseball, basketball, football and
volleyball. Farmer is well known athletically for his many years serving as the
public address anouncer at Henry County High School football games.
The inductees will be enshrined at a 6:30 p.m. banquet May 10 at Paris
Convention Center, 1510 E. Wood. St. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the
law office of William T. Looney, 127 N. Poplar St., and at Paris Insurance
Agency, 203 W. Wood St.
Guest speaker for the event is Tennessee Titans broadcaster Mike Keith. Dubbed
the “Voice of the Titans,” Keith has been the play-by-play announcer for Titans’
radio broadcasts since 1999. He has been selected Tennessee Sportscaster of the
Year four straight years.
