| A memorial service is planned at 1
p.m. Saturday at Ridgeway Funeral Home for Henry County native Susan Nelson
Taylor of North Carolina. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Taylor died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Carolina Meadow in Chapel Hill, N.C. The body was cremated. Born in Paris, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Mary Sue Ragland Nelson. She graduated from Grove High School in 1949, attended Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Va., and earned a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 1953. She worked in Paducah until she married Gerald Taylor, who died in 2000. After living in Carbondale, Ill., Los Angeles, Bermuda and Houston, she returned to Paris where she owned and operated several enterprises including Tailored Home Sales and EZ Car Wash. A family member said she loved her family, her dogs, the outdoors and books. She leaves two daughters: Susan (Michael) Guttman of Pensacola, Fla., and Ellen Turley of Nashville; one sister: Anne Nelson Loeb of Chapel Hill; four grandchildren: Jenny Shoaf (Randall) Richardson, Samantha Shoaf, Angela Guttman, and Lee Ann (Ekwali Mwalipenja; and a special caregiver: Lori Hall. Memorials may be made to Rhea Public Library, 400 W. Washington St., Paris or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). |
