| Nelle Silvey, age 94, of Iowa
Falls, died on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa
Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at the United Methodist
Church in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7
P.M. Thursday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Nelle Nance was born on March 15, 1914 at Buchanan, Tennessee to parents Rueben Nance and Sarah Nance. She lived most of her early life in nearby Paris, Tennessee with her uncle Owen Jackson and Aunt Ruth Jackson following the death of her parents. She graduated from EW Grove High School in Paris. Nelle received her teaching certificate attending Union University and Memphis State College in Memphis. She taught school in Buchanan, and then worked at Camp Tyson near Paris. There she met Emory Silvey and they were married January 22, 1944 at the First Baptist Church in Paris. He preceded her in death. Following Emory's discharge from service in 1946 they moved to Iowa and began farming at a Hubble farm west of Alden. In 1953 they bought farm land and farmed northwest of Alden until 1980, when the couple moved to Iowa Falls. Following Emory's death in 1998 Nelle sold their home on Ellis Ave. and moved to the Rock Run Apartments. In 2003 following hip surgery she became a resident at the heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. She was a very determined individual and a true joy to her caregivers. She will be missed. Nelle was baptized in Paris at the First Baptist Church and later transferring membership to the Alden United Methodist Church. There she taught Sunday school, served on the church board, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Nelle also worked 13 years in the Alden Community Schools at the Popejoy attendance center. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Sue Belle Nance and Edith Pickard, both of Paris, Tennessee. Nelle is survived by one daughter, Pamela Driscoll (Gerald) of Sheboygan, WI, grandson, Michael and wife, Samika of Aurora, CO; two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. |
