| The funeral service for retired
teacher Kate Rainey of Cottage Grove was scheduled at 2 p.m. today at McEvoy
Funeral Home. Johnny Dale was to officiate. Burial was to follow in Walker Cemetery. Named as pallbearers were Mike Waddey, Jerry and Jimmy Stewart, Dan Paschall, Buddy Kemp and Bobby Barrett. Honorary pallbearers were Mike and Chris Shankle, James Hinton, Andy Paschall, and Bernard and Gary Downey. Visitation was after 10 a.m. today. Rainey, 99, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Eiffel Gardens Assisted Living in Paris. Born Oct. 7, 1913, in Henry County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Lillie Paschall James. She was married on Aug. 22, 1935, to John Turner “J. T.” Rainey, who died Dec. 3, 1996. Rainey was a member of Cottage Grove Church of Christ and the Retired Teachers Association. She taught for 29 years at Center and Cottage Grove schools. She also served as an alderman at Cottage Grove. She leaves one grandchild: Shellie (Jeff) Chandler Edwards of Peachtree City, Ga.; two great-grandchildren: Camille Elaine Edwards and Payton Faith Edwards; special friends: Joan and Mike Shankle; and special caretakers: Susie Porter, Helen Strickland, Cathy Washum and Eiffel Gardens staff members. She also was preceded in death by a daughter: Camille Rainey Chandler on Jan. 26, 1974; one sister: Clover Stewart; and one brother: Robert “Bob” James.
