Mary Fay Kibbons McCarty, 88, of Paris died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at her residence.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Dossie Wheatley of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Family members and staff of McEvoy Funeral Home will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today and after noon Tuesday.

Born Aug. 3, 1920, in Paris, she was a daughter of the late Frank Carson Kibbons and Grace McClure Kibbons.

She was married on Dec. 24, 1939, to Howell E. McCarty, who died in January 1992.

McCarty was a 1938 graduate of Grove High School. She was a den mother in Cub Scouts in the 1950s and 1960s.

She was secretary for the committee responsible for forming the Reelfoot Girl Scouts Council and served on the first camp committee for the formation of Girl Scout Camp Hazlewood. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader from 1956-1968.

She served as a volunteer school aide at the former Atkins-Porter School. A family member said she was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She leaves one daughter: Sherry (Terry) Brown of Paris; two sons: Rick (Nancy) McCarty of Centennial, Colo., and Randy McCarty of Paris; three grandchildren: Laura (David) Enoch and Carson McCarty, both of Paris, and Ian McCarty of Chicago; and a great-grandchild: Lani Enoch of Paris.

She also was preceded in death by a sister: Nell Fulcher in May 2003.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Paris.
