Mary Sue Sweeney Marshall ~ Obituary

A memorial service for minister’s wife and former department store employee Mary Sue Marshall of Paris is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Assembly of God Church in Paris. Kenneth Jessee of Sedalia, Ky., will officiate.

No visitation is planned. McEvoy Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Marshall, 93, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at the residence of her daughter, Linda Harden in Paris.

She was buried Monday in Memorial Cemetery in Paris.

Born Jan. 21, 1920, in Paris, she was a daughter of the late James William Sweeney and Betty Rhodes Sweeney.

She was married on Oct. 28, 1945, to Bernard K. Marshall, who died Oct. 24, 2008.

In addition to being a minister’s wife, she worked at Woolworth’s, formerly of Paris. A family member said she loved yard work and kept an immaculate lawn. It was said, that she also worked on her neighbors’ yards, “if they didn’t measure up.”

She also leaves one other daughter: Nancy Marshall of Southaven, Miss.; one sister: Laverne France of Paris; three grandchildren: Richard (Erica) Harden of Paris and Derek (Crystal) Marshall and Brett (Jennifer) Marshall, both of Southaven; six great-grandchildren: Trevor Marshall, Alyssa Marshall, Thomas Marshall, Carly Bennett, Matt Bennett and Miles Bennett; and seven nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a son: Glen Dale Marshall; and two sisters: Christine Foust and Rheudine Calk.
