| Susie Ann Hunter Lemons, 61, a
resident of the Leavenworth area for the past 40 years, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 5, 1997, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. She was born June 15, 1936, to John and Opal (Owens) Hunter in Paris, Tenn., where she grew up and attended school. Following graduation from McKenzie High School, she attended the University of Tennessee School of Nursing and while there, played tennis, winning second place in the state tournament two years in a row. She joined the U.S. Air Force where she met Derril Lemons, and on April 2, 1956, they were married. They moved to Seattle for a short time, and following her honorable discharge in August of 1957, they moved to Leavenworth. Mrs. Lemons worked for Tree Top for several years and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 760 and served as a shop steward. She was an avid reader, enjoying many types of books. Susie was also a former member of the Southern Baptist Church while living in Tennessee. Survivors include her husband, Derril; four sons, Ron and wife Christina of Cashmere, Andrew and wife Lucinda, Michael and wife Marina, and Pat, all of Leavenworth; a sister, Lucille Kline of Paris, Tenn.; a brother, William Hunter of Jackson, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry, two brothers, one sister and her parents. Ward's Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Leavenworth.
