Annie Glover Knight ~ Obituary

The funeral service for homemaker and former switchboard operator Annie Pearl Glover Knight of Paris will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Richard Dakin, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, where she was a member, and Don Simmons, former pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Chosen as pallbearers are William Barkley, Matthew Barkley, Larry Pettenger, Scott Rowland, Harold Taylor and Sam Cole.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday.

Knight, 82, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at her residence.

She was married on Nov. 5, 1955, to Ben Knight, who survives.

Born Jan. 6, 1930, in Henry County, she was a daughter of the late Cleveland G. and Pearl McDaniel Glover.

After working as a telephone operator for Southern Bell for six years, she moved to Memphis in 1956. There she was a relief operator for Mallory Air Force Depot and the 2709th Air Force Control Group. She then became a permanent operator at the Millington Naval Air Station.

A family member said she had heart problems most of her life and received one of the first Star Edward heart valves in 1967.

She also leaves one daughter: Benita (Tony) Barkley of Adamsville; three grandchildren: Becky Claybrook of Lexington and Will and Matt Barkley, both of Adamsville; and one great-grandchild: C.J. Claybrook of Lexington.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters: Cora Taylor and Mary Mondou; and three brothers: W.C., Henry and Joe Glover.
