Lewis Jackson ~ Obituary

Retired Board of Public Utilities employee Lewis Jackson, 88, of Paris died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Paris Health Care Center.

His wife, Laurine Maxwell Jackson, survives. They were married on Sept. 17, 1945.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Trent Bullock and Scott Shepherd from First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Chosen as pallbearers are Harold B. Jackson Jr., Jerry Maddox, Bobby Joe Perry, Chip Hutson, Chris Skeen and Phillip Maxwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Bible class at First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday.

Born March 9, 1924, in Henry County, he was a son of the late Owen Henry and Ruth Lee Jackson.

Jackson retired from the Paris Board of Public Utilities after 30 years. He had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1957 and was a past deacon. A World War II veteran, he served in the 104th Infantry Timberwolves and was given the Purple Heart.

He was “adopted” by the Grove High School Class of 1945. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and according to a family member took pride in his flowers and yard. The family member also said he was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and spent his time woodworking, making birdhouses and checkerboards.

He also leaves two daughters: Lydia (Donnie) Linville of Paris and Kay (Avery) Myers of McMinnville; two sisters: Betty Olson of Germantown and Pattye Hudson of Collierville; one brother: Doug (Helen) Jackson of Germantown;

Two sisters-in-law: Edith Jackson and Katherine Jackson, both of Paris; two brothers-in-law: Elwood (Connie) Maxwell of Springville and John (Charlene) Maxwell of Baton Rouge, La.;

Three grandchildren: Greg (Tiffany) Linville of O’Fallon, Mo., Lisa (Chip) Hutson of Buchanan and Phillip Clingman of Tucson, Ariz.; six great-grandchildren: Charly, Grady and Mary Mabel Hutson, all of Buchanan, and Katherine, Maggie and Tytus Linville, all of O’Fallon; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers: Harold, Archie and James Jackson.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 313 N. Poplar St., Paris
